USDA/Green Latinos Grant - 511 Trees

The City of Signal Hill has been awarded grant funding from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) USDA Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry Program via GreenLatinos, one of 12 National Pass Through Partners, to plant new street trees within the city’s urban landscape in disadvantaged communities, aligning with federal and state goals for healthier, greener communities. Green-Latinos is a national comunidad focused on addressing environmental, climate, and conservation issues in historically underrepresented and underserved communities.

For the project, Public Works has procured the acquisition of 511 trees to be planted in the more underserved areas of the city. This planting effort contributes to the City's overall goal to plant 1,000 trees in 5 years. The species have also been chosen in accordance with the 2023 Signal Hill Street Tree Master Plan. 

Project Timeline

The selected contractor will be responsible for planting the trees and for continued maintenance during a 90-day establishment period. Upon completion of the tree establishment period, property owners and residents are responsible for ensuring that street trees located adjacent to the property receive the proper amount of water to ensure the health of the trees, as specified in section 12.05.030 of the Signal Hill Municipal Code.
