Edward H.J. Wilson has been a member of the Signal Hill City Council since 1997. He has previously served six terms as Mayor -- March 2000/2001, March 2005/2006, March 2010/2011, March 2014/2015, March 2017/2018 and December 2020/2021. The entrepreneurial spirit and prudent fiscal management of he and his council colleagues have provided Signal Hill with financial stability and a balanced budget even in the face of an uncertain economic environment.
Ed has served as a member of the Board of the Gateway Cities Council of Governments (COG) since 1997, serving as President and Vice-President of the Board. During his tenure, the COG successfully obtained funding to improve the I-710 freeway, implemented the clean truck program at both Ports taking tons of nitrogen oxide out of the air, gained support from the State Legislature to create the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy, and received a favorable court judgment that required the Water Replenishment District to refund over charged assessments to local water agencies. Ed has also served on the League of California Cities State Board that was successful in protecting city funds through the passage of Proposition 1A.
Ed has also served on the following Boards and Commissions:
- Speakers Appointment to the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy (provided millions for parks and open space for the region).
- Appointed to the Los Angeles County Commission of Local Government by County Supervisor Don Knabe.
- President of the Los Angeles Division of the League of California Cities.
- Water Conservation Authority.
- Los Angeles Economic Development Commission.
In addition to his municipal experience, Ed is a Certified Public Accountant whose professional experience includes being employed by KPMG, one of the world’s largest accounting firms, Nissan Motor Corporation, and Kubota Tractor Corporation which has given him the strong budget experience that is necessary to identify the real funding priorities of the region.
