Donation and Loaning of Objects and Artifacts

2. Donations are the transfer of ownership of the object or artifact to the Library and therefore, the original owner is relinquishing their rights to the object. 

   Loaned items are displayed at the Library during a specific exhibition and returned upon the completion of the exhibit. 

   As outlined below, the Library follows a policy of selective acquisition. Each donation or loaned artifact request is thoughtfully vetted by the exhibition curators and appropriate City staff to determine if the artifact is in line with the specific criteria for the acquisition and acceptance of donations; any object accepted into the Library’s collection should be consistent with the institution’s mission and be relevant to the current exhibition.

   If you are interested in donating or loaning an artifact to the Signal Hill Public Library, please fill out this form and return to the Library staff.

   Please note: Due to restrictions of limited funds, storage space, and/or concerns of an object’s required preservation needs, only inquiries that are of specific interest and in line with these criteria will be considered.

    Upon execution of this acknowledgment, the above-named donor or authorized representative on behalf of the above-named donor(s) (“Donor”) doeshereby certify that it possesses clear and unrestricted legal title to the object(s) described herein and hereby relinquishes all right, title, and interest in the same object(s) for the purpose of making an unrestricted gift of the object(s) to the Signal Hill Public Library. In this instance, all donations are considered outright and unconditional gifts to be used at the Library’s discretion.  Donor acknowledges and accepts the terms set forth herein and hereby waives and releases the Signal Hill Public Library, City of Signal Hill and its officials, officers, employees, volunteers and agents from liability of any kind in connection with this donation or the object(s) subject to this donation.

44. Loaned Artifacts

    Upon execution of this acknowledgment, the above named lender or authorized representative of the above-named lenders(s) (“Lender”) does hereby certify that it possesses clear and unrestricted legal title to the object(s) described herein and hereby allows the Signal Hill Public Library to display these objects for the duration of a period specified for a certain exhibition. Artifacts will only be returned to the Lender and will be treated with the same care given to Library property. Lender acknowledges and agrees that loaned objects may be photographed and scanned for educational purposes by the Library in relation to the exhibition.  Lender further acknowledges and accepts the terms set forth herein and hereby waives and releases the Signal Hill Public Library, City of Signal Hill and its officials, officers, employees, volunteers and agents from liability of any kind in connection with this loan or the object(s) subject to this loan. The Signal Hill Public Library cannot accept responsibility for any error or deficiency in information furnished to the lender’s insurers or for lapses in coverage in the lender’s policy.
