The programs and responsibilities that the Engineering Department is responsible for include: 
  • Administering an assessment district, such as the California Crown Landscape and Lighting District
  • Planning and reviewing land development projects and subdivisions
  • Planning, designing, and constructing all public facilities
  • Providing engineering support services to other city departments
  • Checking plans 
  • Conducting traffic engineering
  • Developing and managing the Capital Improvement Program and departmental budget
  • Issuing permits
  • Managing contract services
  • Managing pipeline franchises
  • Providing survey and inspection services
